Repost: Dear Friends and Family, The holiday season is upon us once again and its great to see you all. This time of year brings fun, festive spirits, and FOOD. On behalf of parents of small children, I make this one request: please respect our authority over what we feed our kids. You may think its so cute to give the little ones the same tasty treats you are eating. Its tradition for everyone to share in the green bean casserole, the pumpkin pie, the lasagna, the chicken with cream sauce, the holiday ham... Whats a little taste going to hurt? Unless you are volunteering to stay up with that child all night as they cry with indigestion and gas, please check with the childs parent first. Unless you are volunteering to change the next days diaper that requires a hazmat suit and an incinerator because it smells like something died, please check with the childs parent first! Unless you are volunteering to comfort the child at the ER while they wait to have their itchy, puffy rash checked out due to a food allergy that the child couldnt explain to you, please, please, PLEASE check with the childs parent first!!! And for friends and family of children breastfed little ones, please be considerate of the need to have a calm time and place to reconnect and nurse without criticism or distraction. Please dont ask us to leave the room, cover up, stop nursing, or pump and give a bottle. Please dont suggest that we deny our nuts longs their favOrite thing just because it makes you uncomfortable, you think their too old for it, you want to help, or you think were not letting them develop appropriately. We wouldnt ask that of you. I promise, were not trying to rub it in your face, show off, or make anyone uncomfortable. Were just trying to feed our little ones in the manner we believe is best for US. You are welcome to play with, cuddle, and generally love on us when were done. So, for everybodys enjoyment, please respect our food choices for our children and help ensure that they can safely share in the season. Thank you!
