Repost from Baja Insider: Monday, December 2, 2013 9:40 AM MST Forecasters overestimate the strength of the developing cluster of Highs now moving over the 4 Corners Region of the US. As a result the winds in the Sea did not develop as strong, nor did the Santa Anna Condition warm the Pacific coastal regions over the weekend. The winds are blowing to 20kts in the central Sea of Cortez, and this and pattern will slowly shift to the eastern side of the Sea over the next 36hrs. However for those cruisers that move southeast toward Puerto Vallarta the high winds will follow that direction over the next 96hrs. Watch for heightened sea state 5-7 in the southern Sea on 9 seconds and 8-12 southeast of Cabo San Lucas to PV on 12 seconds. In Baja California today in Ensenada look for partly cloudy and partly Santa Anna with temps in the mid to upper 70s. But tomorrow temps will drop by 10°F as a cold front begins to move south-southeast across the peninsula. Inland, in Mexicali it wont be much warmer, perhaps edging to 80°F. along the Sea of Cortez it will remain breezy today in San Felipe with temps in the upper 70s through Thursday, then the effects of the cold front will be felt across much of the peninsula and temps in the low 60s will ensue. In Baja California Sur, the affects of the winds not maturing have been felt here too with slightly warmer than forecast temps and certainly less wind that provided a rather stellar fall weekend for outdoor activities. But winter is on the way, but in the form of tropical precipitation. Baja Sur occasionally gets winter seasonal rains when the warm moist tropical air moving northeast from near Hawaii, commonly referred to as The Pineapple Express. Unfortunately this is incorrect, the term Pineapple Express refers to another very specific weather event. But, when this warm moist air slams into a cold front moving down the California coast into Baja, we get some rain squeezed out of it. Accumulations are rarely significant, but with the last season rains we received from TS Raymond, it will help maintain the deserts green into late December.
