Representative Paul Ryan gave us this jewel, “We have got this tailspin of culture, in our inner cities in particular, of men not working and just generations of men not even thinking about working or learning the value and the culture of work,” I often write and talk about the scapegoating of the weak and vulnerable as an easy way to assign blame instead of doing the hard work of digging to the meta-philosophical level of problems. Lets forget the obvious Lee Atwater linguistics at play and go to the simple fact that so much of our country has been deindustrialized over the last 30 years. Ive written about this for years. Washington politicians endorse and produce legislation that makes it easier to offshore American jobs, then blame those most affected by those decisions for being unemployed. This is where we are as a nation. Yes, there are those in southwest Virginia and those in the inner city who wont work, but they arent the rule; they are the exception. We confuse the outliers for the Bell Curve. I could show 100 people a video of Lee Atwater teaching a seminar on racial coding and almost half would deny his intentions were mendacious.
