Representatives from over 130 national governments have come together in Geneva to debate the merits of the Hyogo Framework for Action, the current global framework on disaster risk reduction. Much agreement that its a great foundation on which to build the post-2015 framework which will be adopted in Sendai, Japan, at the Third UN World Conference on DRR, next March. A key issue for many is how now to measure progress and to bridge the gap between aspirations, policy formulation, the adoption of legislation, and action. Indicators were the subject of the first of three technical workshops being held during the two days of the Intergovernmental Preparatory Committee, July 14-15.
