Reproduced below is what I posted to the Fb Group Indian restaurant Cuthroats! (sic). There were so many horror stories about overcharging, so I thought Ill share a recent pleasant experience... ************************************** Of all people, I had to ask a jaga kereta for recommendations for a nice place to eat nearby when I was in JB recently. He recommended Nillas around the corner from where my car was parked. The guy was pretty articulate and he charged me only RM 2, even knowing I am from out of town. So I decided to go with his suggestion :-) Nilla, as it turned out, is a popular Southern Indian restaurant famous for its banana leaf rice and tosai. When I was seated, I knew I wanted beriani rice but couldnt decide whether Ill have fish, mutton or chicken to go. The waiter (I think the chief waiter) suggested I go look at the counter where they placed all the dishes, so I can decide better. When I was looking at the food there, he was armed with a calculator. I pointed at the fish and egg. He totalled up the price that will include the rice, fish and egg. I then asked what about mutton. He re-calculated and showed me the new total on the calculator display. I felt like a customer in a camera shop buying a dSLR body and pondering about the various optional lenses that will make up the package. But in reality, I suspect the waiter thought I was some cheapskate backpacker who cant make up his mind. Haha. In the end, what I opted was surprisingly cheaper than what I would have normally pay in KL (RM 12.50 including drinks). But what I really like is the friendly, honest and the no-hard sell approach. He didnt try to foist me a fish-head or giant prawn. And the food tastes great. Nilla is at 3 Jalan Ungku Puan, Johor Bahru.
