Republican Attorney General candidate David Sterling today - TopicsExpress

Republican Attorney General candidate David Sterling today announced his support for a Stand Your Ground law in Arkansas. Stand Your Ground laws give citizens the right to use deadly force to protect themselves from criminals. The laws were brought to national attention following the George Zimmerman trial in Florida. “Law-abiding Arkansans should not be intimidated by criminals. If someone is in a public place where they have a right to be, they should not be forced to flee for their lives by those who seek to do them harm,” stated Sterling. Under Arkansas law, a citizen has a “duty to retreat” from conflict when they feel threatened unless they are in their home or on the surrounding property. Sterling noted that Arkansas is the lone southern state without a stand your ground law. “We should promote the right of citizens to self-defense. As Attorney General, I’ll ask the legislature to put the law on the side of honest citizens, not lawbreakers. I believe it is the criminal who should be retreating from conflict, not law-abiding Arkansans,” remarked Sterling. Sterling says a Stand Your Ground law will be included in his initial legislative package if he’s elected Attorney General next year. Learn more about Republican David Sterling at Sterling4AG.
