Republicans are giddy over the off year elections. They see the atmosphere surrounding the elections as a Perfect Storm, and an opportunity to gain seats and possible control of more government. But they must remember that it has not been too many years ago that they thought the world was coming to an end when Barack Obama was elected President. Some threatened to move and leave our Country and others filed frivolous lawsuits attempting to have their State secede from the Union. Even though the Country would probably be better off if they had left our Country, they did not follow through because they know they live in the most powerful Country in the world with the most freedoms. Well, if things happen as predicted and the Republicans make gains and maybe gain more power in government, you will not hear me crying like they did. I accept it and realize with power comes responsibility, and I will wait to see how they handle their responsibility . I will remember back how we got into the current situation and I will remember that Bill Clinton was President and presided over government during the Golden Era and handed George W. Bush a balanced budget, and I will remember how Bush raised taxes and increased government spending and got us into the worst Recession we have ever experienced. President Obama was handed a disaster and it has taken time to recover. In some areas it does not feel like the recovery has occurred but yet gains have been made: the unemployment rate is lower than when he went into office; the stock market is up 175%; big business is sitting on 1.5 trillion dollars and is slowly investing and creating new jobs; Bin Laden and other terrorists have been killed; the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are over; two out of three of the big three auto companies have been reorganized, borrowed government money and repaid the loans and are all three making profits; Banks are now sound and have repaid THARP monies; the foreclosures have ended and inventories reduced and real estate including housing is going up in value; ACA is in place and children can stay on parents insurance to age 26 and people can change insurance even with preexisting illnesses and maximum caps have been removed; the USA is less dependent on foreign oil and we have become more efficient and thus using less oil products; capital gain taxes have been increased on the Rich so that they pay at a higher rate on their investments and thus there is more revenue. Yes, times are improving but we know what the Republicans will do based upon past performance under Reagan, and the Bushes......they will cut taxes on the Rich and increase spending and increase the size of government and cut programs that benefit working class people and hope that the cut in taxes on the Rich will trickle down to the working class. There will be less money in the economy and it will likely lead to another Republican Recession, and thus will lead to a return of the democrats to power.
