Republicans fail to connect their own dots. But Democrats this - TopicsExpress

Republicans fail to connect their own dots. But Democrats this year—what a rhetorical, emotional and policy disaster. In ’08 they were on fire with hope, in ’12 they were keep the faith, stay the course. This year they are surly. They are unloving and unlovable. It’s race and gender politics, it’s wheelchairs, it’s endless defensiveness about voting for or with the president. Republicans may have failed to unite, but the Democrats divide. Sen. Mark Udall of Colorado is so pathetically dependent on one issue, the supposed war on women, that the local press has made him famous as Mark Uterus. It is the most meaningful epithet of 2014. It tells Democrats they need new forms of manipulation, this one is old and mined out. The advertisement that most captures the 2014 cycle is from Kentucky’s Alison Lundergan Grimes : I’m not Barack Obama. She looked for all the world like Christine O’Donnell, who uttered the most famous words of her 2010 cycle: I’m not a witch. Overshadowing all this is the president. He can’t make a successful national appeal for faith and patience. It’s been six years; people are tuckered out. The candidates of his own party don’t want him near them. He actually goes on the trail for a gubernatorial candidate in safe Democratic Maryland and the audience shows up but then walks out while he speaks. He must have seen them leaving the stands.
