Republicans have never been all that caring about the suffering of the poor. They dont believe in social efforts to help the poor, so to express feelings for the poor would be out of place as it might imply they should do something about poverty. Like the poor who came to North America from Europe. They got free land or land with affordable terms, and they prospered. The expansion West gave more free land or land with affordable terms, and those people prospered. Well, theres no more free land for immigrants and pioneers. The Republican solution was exhausted long ago. Poor people today are the victims of a perverted capitalist scheme to move production overseas and keep laborers on the edge and therefore unwilling to complain about being taken advantage of. Not everything Republicans say is crazy, but in tough times, they are the least able to think outside the box and make creative decisions for the good of the People. And here comes Mitt Romney once again dragging out his tired old solutions that involve everybody *except* the poor. He still believes that those who have rigged the system and stolen the nations wealth are the only ones capable of solving the problem. No, he just wants to make sure that hes in a position to oversee that all decisions are financially beneficial to his class; he does not care what happens to the lower classes, just like Herbert Hoover here who was trounced out of office because he could not bring himself to care about the suffering of his nation.
