Required reading from where I sit. This needs to be read and understood. Careless reporting is currently ramping up Islamophobia by accident and/or by design. This is a clear and eloquent piece that reminds us that the language used by our MSM can subtly undermine just about anything. For example, we keep hearing the term moderate Muslims which implies that there can be no real distinction between extremists and the Muslim majority. I dont hear the term moderate Jews used when Gaza gets another taste of Israeli anti-terror operations. I dont recall reading about moderate Christians after another wedding party gets wiped out by a drone strike in Afghanistan or Pakistan. Come to think of it, I dont even recall hearing the term used when Ukraines regime bombards another village in the Donbass. Funny that. The bottom line is that extremism is not the preserve of religious groups. There are some pretty extreme people in government right now, who justify civilian deaths as collateral damage in their War on Terror. I have been outraged throughout the whole of 2014, just as I am now by what happened in Paris, but someone must put the brakes on the BS if we are ever going to put a lid on and solve the terrorism problem. First and foremost, we need governments and diplomats who think carefully before they speak and, when they do, speak intelligently and with steady, unjerked knees and they need to encourage the media to do likewise.
