Rescue Knives: Hi all, We have been asked on many occasions about whats happening with the rescue knife availability in Australia. In discussions with Australian Customs and some of Australias largest knife importers, the situation and law remains the same. We have seen and also been shown what customers have been have purchasing from Ebay and Overseas suppliers and unfortunately, these knives are classed as a PROHIBITED WEAPON under the current Australian law, therefore illegal to own and use. The Law that currently stands is that : Any knife or tool that has an assisted opening blade, ie spring loaded, switch flick knife or even a basic thumb knurl and capable of being opened or partially opened with one hand and can have the ability to be flicked opened with a finger push or wrist flick is a banned weapon. It does not matter if its pointed or blunt blade, hard to flick or easy to flick the law covers any assisted metal blade including those with a rope or nylon cutter hooks. We understand the the need for tools for rescue personal and are working with suppliers to find a suitable solution, we dont agree with the law in some cases, but thats what it is. Buyer and owners beware !
