Rescue Operation #2 We received a phone call about 12 dog and 2 puppies in need in a very rural part of the county. We decided that we needed to evaluate and rescue the k-9s as soon as possible by the description of what the situation was. We packed up the minivan and headed out on the 1.5 hour journey to the location. We pulled in to discover dogs on chains in the mud, cold, shivering, covered in mud, some in pens not on chains. Green water, water logged dog food spread all over, no comfort, no joy, no wagging tails, and the pain shot though our hearts. What we didnt expect is what we saw next. Goats, Ducks, Chickens, Rabbits, and three feral dogs. There were to many to even count we were in shock. The ducks started screaming for us when they saw us walk around the corner as if saying are the dogs the only ones who deserve rescue? They were in a 10x15 mud and feces filled pen. The majestic white ducks that should be living in a pond clean and healthy were prisoners in the same environment as the dogs and puppies. The rabbits were housed in about 1.5 feet of feces, hay, urine, old food rotting and in an area the size appropriate for maybe 6 bunnies held over 20. None of the animals had clean housing, clean dry food or clean water. There were 4 goats total, two of which are very heavily pregnant. We had a mission on our hands. No man left behind is our motto. All life matters and there was just no way we were going to help the dogs and leave the other animals behind. We searched and coordinated and found placement for every single animal. The dogs and puppies were welcomed to All 4 Paws (next post) and the farm animals are now living the good life on a huge horse farm. Rescue is about being compassionate and working hard to save as many animals as possible. Our mission my be for Cats and Dogs but we would never allow neglect of any animals no matter what species. So we loaded and caught with a group of amazing volunteers all of the animals on the property besides two tricky loose roosters who flew into the trees. We are still working on securing them to also get them to safety. Into dog crates and down the road we went with all of our rescued farm animals :) They are now safe, warm, happy and clean. Hunger pains will no longer be known to any of these animals. 15 ducks, 4 goats (2 preggo), 26 rabbits and 29 chickens and roosters.
