Rescue doesnt take holidays Jacqueline Meeks and I know this all too well. We (along with three sheriffs deputies) spent most of today at a hoarders home in Pike County. After inspection of the residence and yard, we count over 150 dogs, 30 cats, and lost count of chickens, guineas, ducks, and geese (probably over 300). Tomorrow, we will be out again - this time with cameras and paperwork to document every single dog. This is going to be a major undertaking, but we HAVE to get the dogs out. Animal control has agreed to let her keep 8 small dogs, but the rest need rescue/homes. Most are chihuahuas, terriers, yorkies, pug mix, schnauzer mix, etc. (only a couple over 10-15 lbs). Soaring Paws has agreed to fly dogs out Monday, but we need rescues to take and major funds! I will post all dogs tomorrow. Almost all look healthy and all are friendly. None have been vaccinated or had flea meds. Most are not spayed or neutered. All have been fed and socialized. RESCUES ARE NEEDED DESPERATELY! FUNDS TO VET ARE NEEDED DESPERATELY (ALL DOGS MUST BE VACCINATED AND HAVE HEALTH CERTS BEFORE BEING TRANSPORTED TO RESCUE) The lady involved has tried her best to take care of them, but is VERY overloaded. We are trying not to have to call in major organizations bc the lady is older and is embarrassed and begged us not to have media attention. We agreed that as long as she voluntarily released the dogs, no further action would be taken. The dogs are not abused or neglected (although some need vet care immediately). There are just so many and one of her so many things get left undone. This isnt a case of someone that is meaning harm. This lady was thinking she is doing the right thing, and in her mind, she is. Hoarding is a mental illness - and sometimes rescuers have to have compassion and do what is best for everyone (people and animals alike). I will only be releasing information on the dogs available. To make this clear, no one involved will release names or contact info for the lady involved.
