Rescue friends: A post was circulated recently making disparaging - TopicsExpress

Rescue friends: A post was circulated recently making disparaging allegations about myself, Upstate Animal Rescue and Kelley Blair. This is in reference to Diamond, our pretty pittie. I will NOT name the people doing this because I refuse to stoop to that, but I do want things to be clear. Diamond is 10-11 months old. She is a pitbull (mix perhaps) who was dumped by her first owner for growing out of her puppy paws. The kind couple who found her could not manage her with two older big dogs. They took her to GCAC, believing it to be no-kill. When told otherwise by the shelter staff, they tearfully asked me to take her - and I did, knowing that she wasnt likely to make it out of the shelter. We had her spayed, chipped, wormed and vaccinated. We put her on HW preventative (she is HW-). We actively sought a home for her, as we dont have room or funds and UAR agreed to let us bring her to their rescue events to try to help her find a home. A couple decided to foster to adopt her. They have another beautiful pittie who is happy and healthy. Their yard is fenced and it seemed ideal. From the outset, things werent ideal. First they complained that she was digging. We sent the name of an excellent trainer, who we also contacted for them, but they opted not to do that and said they had dealt with it. Then Diamond hurt her leg running in their yard. They took her to the vet and we got another panic message, saying that she was older than we thought and that she had never received HW test. We had this done at Wade Hampton, provided the records and paid for the following visit to their vet to have Diamond sedated and examined and X-rayed. The X-ray confirmed that she was, in fact, the age that we had provided and that she has a moderate luxated patella in her right hind leg, and a minimal luxated patella in the left hind leg due to the injury sustained at the fosters home. The vet ordered rest and medication with restricted activity to see if the issue cleared up; they provided a referral to Upstate Veterinary Specialists in case it did not heal with rest and medication. We agreed to pay for half of the surgery if it was necessary and explained that UAR did not have the funds to pay for this - and that I was the one who pulled Diamond. At 11:30 Friday night (12/5) I received a text from the foster mother where she had copied all of our text conversations and provided my name and phone number to someone I didnt know. When I asked her what was going in, she informed me that Diamond was not reacting well to being crated outside on restricted activity, that hand walking her (she says 6x per day) wax too much for them and that her crying was bothering the neighbors so they didnt want to keep her. We agreed to pick her up at their convenience, which we did on Sunday (12/7) at the appointed time. Diamond is as sweet and loving as always. But she is limping because of her hind right leg - so we couldnt hide it even if we wanted to. But we arent trying to hide it - we dont have the estimated $2000 it will cost for her surgery and so we are planning to raise the funds however possible if we cannot find a rescue that can handle her medical need and get her into a wonderful home. In the meantime, Ive been posting repeatedly asking for help because we do have 12 of our own babies and most of them are small, plus two are seniors with medical needs. Because I made the comment that Diamond is not a lawn ornament, the former foster became insulted and she and her best friend are sending hateful and dishonest messages all over Facebook, naming us and UAR, and warning people about not getting involved with us. To be clear, I have ALL of Diamonds vet records from both of the vets that she has seen, which clearly show her age, health status and the details of her luxated patella. I also have the archived texts to prove everything stated here. We sent a perfectly healthy dog to these people and they sent us back an injured dog, right before the holidays when rescues are saturated and fosters are few due to holiday travel. Now these people are not only posting the hateful lies, but they are also posting every text conversation from this morning to try to further harm us. To be honest, I only care about my reputation as a rescuer because I want to continue helping. Otherwise, people are free to think as they wish. I stand by my word. Bottom line: We need to find a wonderful INSIDE home for Diamond. We need help with the cost of her surgery, as it doesnt appear that we are going to get our Christmas miracle and find her a loving family yet. I am pleading with everyone to help this sweet girl. To be absolutely certain that there are no grounds for any further allegations of dishonesty, I will post the information once Diamond is seen by Dr. Allen and will ask that donations be made directly to Upstate Veterinary Specialists so that donors can be assured that our hands will not touch a cent of any money donated. We need to help this sweet girl. Humans have failed - and with this negative spate of spiteful ness from the former fosters - they continue to fail this sweet dog. I will not see her end up in a trash bag at GCAC. There is a family for her and I am determined to find it, even if this recent slander makes me unable to ever help another animal.
