Research Achievements: News Researchers at the Dept of Physics, NIT-T have developed a way to decontaminate the circulatory system from radioactive Cs-137. One of the major byproduct of nuclear accidents and explosions, Cs-137 is difficult to clear due to its long half life. The solution to this problem is to make the Cs-137 to attach to magnetic nanoparticles and clear by magnetic separation. The research works were published recently in Elsevier journals. Informed sources indicated that highly magnetic nanoparticles were available for the first time so that the decontamination is very effective.
