Research Assistant – Lapwings on fallow plots Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust Salary £18,500 (pro rata) Full time post for 6 months An experienced research assistant is required on a 6-month contract from April-September 2014 to conduct fieldwork and maintain databases for an experiment assessing the value of fox exclusion using electric fencing for increasing lapwing breeding success. The post holder will be required to undertake surveys of lapwings, locate nests, ring and radio-track broods, as well as recording vegetation structure, running trail cameras and sampling invertebrates with pitfall traps. The post will involve liaising with landowners, working with another research assistant and MSc student and entering data on Excel sheets. Applicants must be self-motivated and prepared to work long hours in the field. Previous bird survey experience is essential and a ringing licence is desirable. A full driving licence is essential, but a vehicle will be provided. Fieldwork will be in the Berkshire Downs and north Hampshire. Office space and lab facilities will be provided at GWCT, Fordingbridge. Closing date for applications 26 March 2014. Interviews 31 March/1 April 2014.
