Research Associate (AHRC) Faculty of Mathematics, Computing and Technology, Based in Milton Keynes £31,342 to £35,256 depending on experience. Fixed term contract to 20 October 2019 closing date : 15/12/2014 We are seeking to employ a Research Associate to work on a new research project, funded by AHRC for five years under the Connected Communities and Design highlight notice. The project is called Empowering Design Practices: historic places of worship as catalysts for connecting communities. It aims to explore how community-led design (CLD) practices can help empower those who look after historic places of worship to create more open, vibrant and sustainable places. Empowering Design Practices will engage directly with community organisations and communities of faith and place in order to review and co-develop innovative participatory design practices and to co-deliver design projects. The project will also aim to build capacity in (participatory) design research. The project is a collaborative partnership between the Open University and organisations outside the Higher Education sector including English Heritage, the Historic Religious Buildings Alliance, Heritage Lottery Fund, The Glass-House Community Led Design as well as design professionals and consultants from the design and heritage sectors. The successful candidate will be expected to have completed a postgraduate degree in architecture, design, heritage, community studies or other subject related to the project. The candidate will also be expected to have knowledge and experience on community engagement in design processes and/or knowledge and understanding of the architecture and history of religious buildings and of the faith communities that use them. The Research Associate will work collaboratively alongside the project team to support the design and delivery of project activities and will play a crucial logistical role in coordinating information, action and learning.
