Research Scientist - Virtual Learning in Marine Science; Nicholas School of the Environment, Duke University Job Title: Research Scientist - Virtual Learning in Marine Science Organization: Nicholas School of the Environment, Duke University Job Location: Beaufort, North Carolina Application Deadline: Tuesday, October 1, 2013 Description: VIRTUAL LEARNING IN MARINE SCIENCE: EDUCATION RESEARCH IN DATA-RICH DOMAINS The Duke University Marine Laboratory seeks a highly motivated early career innovator (PhD) in educational research who has a strong background in science, preferably marine science, or a marine science PhD with educational research experience as demonstrated by refereed publications or presentations. The successful candidate must have the ability and interest to apply their educational research expertise to undergraduate programs and especially to web-based learning and research environments (e.g., MOOCs, crowd-sourced research). Excellent communication and collaborative skills and an interest in interdisciplinary marine science that includes education research is desired, as is a demonstrated potential to create high-impact partnerships and publications with the marine science research community at large and to initiate extramurally funded programs at NSF (e.g., Cyberlearning: Transforming Education), DARPA (e.g., ENGAGE) or other federal agencies. This is a 2-yr, term position based at the Marine Laboratory of the Nicholas School of the Environment in Beaufort, North Carolina with potential for renewal, funding permitting. The Marine Laboratory values diverse and creative ways of knowing and learning.
