It is a primary evidence in deciding the timeline of Indian history. Alien historians have associated them with Nanda, Chandra Gupta Maurya and Bindusara. Kota Venkatachalam has identified the 3 personalities with Chandra Sri, Chandra Gupta and Samudra Gupta. He has spent his lifetime writing a history book which was a basis for most of Vishwanatha Satya Narayanas literature too. Our LSU professor Subhash Kak who is a Kashmiri Pandit has poften quoted Kota in his papers on history. Subramania Swamy in his talks in Indian History congress has quoted Kota in his defense of Ram Sethu. Simuka Satavahana of Kotilingala, Karimnagar was associated with Nara simha avataram with his name, Vamana avatar am with his association with Bali and Indra with the 30 walled cities written by Megasthenes. His face on a currency coin obtained at Kotilingala site i the earliest currency printed with a face of a personality. In Indika, Megasthanes indicates that the Andhra (mentioned as Andarae) kings belonged to a powerful race and possessed an army of 100,000 infantry, 2,000 cavalry, 1,000 elephants and had 30 well-built fortified towns. Archaeologists have so far examined 18 sites with historical importance and singled out five. Archaeologists recovered bricks, pottery, coins and other evidence from these sites at Dhoolikatta, Kotilingala, Satanikota, Dharanikota and Bodhan. The project was taken up in October, 2005 and efforts are on to identify the remaining Megasthanes towns in Andhra Pradesh.
