Research tells us that about 10,000 baby boomers a day are turning 65 and turning to Medicare to take on their healthcare and health challenges. Just about 10,000 more will turn 65 everyday for the next 19 years. I know Im in that mix...are you? My magic year will be 2020. Medicare is not a static thing. It changes every year. Plans come and go...benefits change. I know that many seniors wouldnt think of changing their Medicare plan. Not because it is or isnt a good plan...but out of fear. Fear that a change might not be as good as what they have right now....fear that a change might make the process at the doctors office confusing or more expensive. As we age...many of us get comfortable in rhythms, patterns and processes and just dont want to change...for anything. Sometimes that can hurt us. The secret is to get an advocate who can help with Medicare. Someone who has spent the time to understand the system and will take time to understand your particular needs. Ive been helping people do that for quite a while now. There are guidelines for Low Income subsidies that you may not be aware of. If you qualify you could get extra help for Part D prescriptions and you could be dual qualified with Medicaid to get help with your Part B premium as well.
