Researcher from Human Rights Watch explains why Sudanese and Eritrean asylum seekers in Israel who have elected to return to their home countries are victims of refoulement (forced return to their home countries, where they are in danger). Refoulement is a serious breach of international and refugee law, and against the 1951 Convention relating to the status of refugees, of which Israel is a signatory. Human Rights Watch has just released an important new report into this phenomena. This release comes on the heels of an expected High Court ruling on the legality of the Holot open detention facility.
