Researchers at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering are using oriented fibers and epoxy thermo resins in conjunction with 3D printing processes to arrive at cellular composites which are both lightweight and very stiff. The researchers say their new material has properties akin to Balsa wood, but is much, much stronger.
