Researchers who speak a non-English language fluently: I ran into a statement that was effectively, X language lacks n words in y field! I feel like this is a meaningless statement -- German has Sturzstrom, a term for rock avalanches unique to the language, English has a whole assortment of words for topples and flows, while French has just generic glissement de terrain. Do you feel like linguistic differences in terminology have some greater implication for how that field is treated within the society? ...or, yknow, do you know any research about that general concept? I am really outside my knowledge-domain.
