Reserve Team Report: Our Division Four Reserves brushed off - TopicsExpress

Reserve Team Report: Our Division Four Reserves brushed off last weeks lost to Sporting Warriors with a convincing 4-1 win over Perth Royals at Elstead Reserve on Sunday. Dodsworths men took the lead when Nathan Chapman unleashed an unstoppable effort with the outside of his foot from outside the box. Despite many of the crowd calling the effort a fluke, Chapman maintains full intent. The lead was doubled when Neil BackpackersFC tucked away a penalty before Royals hauled one back. But Backpackers went into the half 3-1 up when the rejuvenated striker Nigel McDonald overcame his fear of getting kicked in the face to fire home clinically. BackpackersFC rounded off the scoring in the second half when he shimmied past 3 players before rifling an effort into the bottom corner. The goal sparked wild celebrations from BackpackersFC that lasted well into the second half of the first team game. Dodsworths men finish the season next week as they look to consolidate their second place finish. First Team Report: Our first team suffered their first league lost in over a year when they were out fought by a resilient Royals side. Royals rolled to a two lead inside a frantic opening ten minutes that left the Backpackers collectively scratching their heads. But after a slow start McCains men grew into the game and pulled a goal back when Gavin OReilly capped off a period of sustained pressure. Misfiring striker Kelechi Osunwa had a chance to equalise before half time after beating the offside trap. But his effort lacked in conviction and was saved by an outstretched leg of the royals custodian. Despite bossing the start of the second half Backpackers found themselves 3-1 down when Royals caught them against the run of play and Captain Kevin Kenneally stuck a effort that Barry Glendenning would describe as a thunderbastard. Backpackers pulled a goal back with seven minutes remaining when Ally Mcdermid, scoring his third goal in two games, bundled home. Despite a late push Backpackers failed to equalise and lost the last unbeaten run for the season in the Amateur league. An inconsolable Osunwa spoke between sobs after the game. It sucks. He cried. Obviously losing sucks but when youre two games away from going undefeated it sucks a bit more. We didnt start well and collectively we didnt do our jobs. I didnt contribute by scoring, we werent as dominant in the middle as normal and we didnt defend well as a team to start the game. (It) does take a bit of gloss off but mate, this season as an entire club has been great. Our ladies (have) won the league our reserves are second and weve won with two games to spare. We just need to start a new streak next week against Hamersly! *sidenote* This is the last Match repot of the season and thanks for all the kind words, grammar corrections, shares and likes! Itd been awesome doing this! Special thanks to all those who helped out with quotes, lines and photos too! And of course thanks to @thamagnificent7 for all the help too. -BFC Media team!
