Reserves Match Report after their 6 point victory over North Adelaide. Another week in football, another 5 changes to the reserves side. This allowed us to have a look at some more U/18’s that have been playing some good footy. Luke Andruszkiewicz (A-Z for short) and Jacob Leake were given their opportunity to make their senior debut. They both performed admirably and will be better for the experience. The conditions were testing with rain and strong winds forecasted. We needed to start well and put on some scoreboard pressure, we did this by scoring 4 goals in the first 15 minutes. We played contested footy winning lots of neutral balls. The second quarter was much of the same. Although North Adelaide started to get heavily involved in the contested part of the game, we continued to play our pressure style which caused them much uncertainty. The third quarter was a real concern. We completely went away from what had been our strength for the first half. We were second to the football and our pressure fell away to non-existent. I apologise to the members/supporters for my three quarter time address as it may not have sounded all that pleasant but by developing these young guys into League footballers at Sturt I cannot allow them to think its ok to not follow instruction. Into a 3-4 goal wind we lifted our effort and intensity at the contest. Some important goals to Rory Atkins and Sam Smith late in the quarter got us an important 6 point lead. With only a minute to go and having the ball coming into our defence our young Centre Half Back, Rune Gilfoy was dealt a difficult decision. Peel of his opponent and go at the ball or stay with him. He decided to attack the ball as 2 North players were about to pounce. Rune got there first and kicked the ball out of defence and out for a boundary throw in. The ball was thrown in and the siren went. The confidence that he will take from making that decision will improve his game out of sight. Rory Atkins was named best on ground; he worked really hard in the midfield gathering 28 valuable touches and kicked 2 important goals. Elijah Rupcic, Harley Montgomery, Mitch Curnow and Jack Penfold were solid contributors as well. Defenders Tom Johnson and Rune Gilfoy were tireless all day repelling many forward entries. Sam Smith and Ziggy Vitkunas were our best forwards; they kicked 5 goals between them. With the bye coming up next week we can take a well earned rest. It seems we will have many players coming off the injury list after the bye which will make selection quite tough. Adam Silvy Reserves Coach
