Residential edge habitats can create “a severe ecological trap” for young birds—one which may not be recognized by breeding bird surveys focused on pre-fledging parts of the reproductive process. “Although fledglings were more likely to be found near edges than in the interior, fledglings near edges had a far higher probability of dying.
