Residents Reminded of Hazards in Evacuated Area The flood waters in the evacuated are slowly receding, however this does not lessen the hazards in the affected area. While the City of Evans is not preventing residents from entering the evacuated area residents are reminded that standing water is contaminated and is highly dangerous. Areas where water has receded have remnants of those same contaminants and other hidden dangers. Residents will be entering at their own risk. The Evans Building Department is continuing home inspections in the evacuated area. A system of identification has been developed to allow residents to determine the safety of their residence. Inspections will continue daily until complete. Inspected homes all will receive either a green, yellow or orange tag. The meaning of the colors is as follows: • GREEN – Homes are safe to enter and occupy. Enter with caution to assess necessary repairs and contact the Building Department for necessary permits. • ORANGE – DO NOT ENTER OR OCCUPY. Entry may result in injury or death. Please contact the Building Department for additional information and instructions. To date, 112 homes have been inspected. 104 have been being tagged with orange, DO NOT ENTER, tags. Residents will not be allowed to occupy homes that have yellow or orange tags. For residents requesting follow up inspections, please be advised that it could take a couple days to get the inspection completed. Residents will not be restricted from entering their homes in the evacuated area to retrieve their belongings. However, once fencing is in place around the evacuation area, residents will need to enter through a police check point. The City of Evans has imposed a curfew in the evacuation area from 10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. Residents who live in the evacuation area and need access during curfew hours can obtain an authorization letter for access or to enter the area from the City of Evans Police Department.
