Residents of small-town Nordheim, Texas arent thrilled about plans - TopicsExpress

Residents of small-town Nordheim, Texas arent thrilled about plans for a new neighbor in their backyard — a facility where oil and gas producers can let fracking waste evaporate in open-air pits. The EPA found in 1987 that samples of this sludge-like waste were indeed toxic to humans, it can include airborne chemicals like benzene, toluene and xylene. But oil and gas producers successfully lobbied to get this waste exempted from the hazardous label. About 307 people live in Nordheim, and the proposed waste pit facility would be nearly as big as the town itself. Its planned location is less than a mile away from Nordheims only school.
