Resistance is not violence. Picketing is not violence. Police thuggery is violence. Sacrifice for what we believe in is what is sometimes necessary to save our communities and planet from unscrupulous politicians and developers. Years after the Springbok protests against South African Apartheid the stand of the protesters has been vindicated for such a principled stance, in hindsight. Who would say today that it was a waste of time? The current stand against the East West Link may also been seen in such a light. They need the support of Public Transport Unions and workers now.
