Resisting Coal: Community Resistance and a Fossil Free Future 7-9pm Thursday 23 October University College London (UCL) Chemistry Auditorium, Christopher Ingold Building, Gordon Street, London WC1. Speakers: Rogelio Ustate and Francisco Tovar from community alliance FECODEMIGUA in La Guajira, Colombia, will talk about the impacts of theCerrejon coal mine, part-owned by BHP Billiton, which sponsors research at UCL. Pius Ginting from WALHI (Friends of the Earth Indonesia) will speak about the campaign to stop BHP Billiton constructing a massive new opencast coal mine in the rainforest of Central Kalimantan. Daryll Lopez, Campaign Co-ordinator of SOCKSARGENDS AGENDA in the Philippines, will speak about the impacts of another London-listed mining multinational, Glencore, which is planning a coal-fired power station to provide energy for its proposed Tampakan copper and gold mine. The meeting will be chaired by activist journalist Ewa Jasiewicz and hosted byFossil Free UCL.
