Resnick extends option to buy Apollo Plaza mall MONTICELLO — Developer Butch Resnick beat a deadline to pay $50,000 in order to extend his option to purchase the Apollo Plaza in Monticello and reopen the shuttered eyesore with new stores. Resnick had until Monday to extend his option under a letter of intent he signed with the Sullivan County Funding Corp. Doing so gives him another six months to exercise his option to buy the Apollo property at the negotiated price of $600,000. The goal after that is to begin working on the project. We want to be working on the building and the closeout by the winter, said Steve Vegliante, Resnicks attorney, said on Thursday. County legislators approved the transfer of the Apollo Plaza to the Funding Corp. in November. Resnicks plan is to rehab the Apollo structure and reopen it with a supermarket anchoring one end of the building and a general merchandise store anchoring the other. He also has an option to purchase a 90-acre adjacent parcel for $2 million. He wants to build a truck stop on the site. So far, the work at Apollo Plaza has consisted of engineering and design tasks, Vegliante said. Were having weekly meetings with our engineers and with our architects, he said. We have a lot of planning work to do, and we started it. lsparks@th-record
