Resourcefulness vs. Wastefulness Wise use of that which others would normally overlook or discard. 10 “He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much. (Luke 16:10) Learning to manage all of the blessings God has given to us is perhaps the single greatest challenge in life. God gives to all of us the same amount of time. Everyone has twenty four hours per day in which to labor and be productive. This includes work, family, and recreational obligations. Benjamin Franklin, one of our nation’s founders, once wrote: “Dost thou love life? Then waste not time. For time is the stuff that life is made of.” God doesn’t give to each of us the same amount of money. To some, He gives a lot. To others, He chooses to bless in other ways. He does, however, hold everyone accountable for what they have been given. Take this challenge. Make it a habit to put all of your loose change into a piggy bank. Fill it up, and then when you cannot squeeze another coin into it, take it to the bank, have the cashier count it, and open a savings account that you never touch, except for emergencies. Think of things you could do without. Trips to the convenience store often are unnecessary and also cause us to spend way more than we could at other places. Another resource we have from the hand of God is opportunity. Make sure that you do not waste the opportunities God sends your way. These opportunities come in various forms- education, athletic, art, influence, and career. Also, make sure that you leave room in your schedule for opportunities that will allow you to impact eternity- like a week at summer camp or your youth group’s mission trip. Take advantage of that which the Creator lays before you in His providence and make the most of them. It’s all about being resourceful. Let’s read God’s Word together this week and learn some principles of resourcefulness.
