Respondents Close Case in Kabimba Tribunal The respondents have closed their case in the Wynter Kabimba tribunal after their last witness Transparency International Zambia Executive Director Goodwell Lungu testified before the Judge Evans Hamaundu led tribunal. Lungu testified that he had copied the letter he wrote to the Electoral Commission of Zambia about the nullification of seats to the media because the matter was of public interest. He said that his organization was seeking a guide on whether MPs whose seats had been nullified were eligible to re-contest. Queried by the complaints’s lawyer Makebi Zulu on whether he had written to the judiciary over the matters he raised Lungu said he did not as he hoped the ECZ would show guidance. Former Solwezi Central MP Lucky Mulusa and civil rights activist Brebner Changala have petitioned the Supreme Court over Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba’s alleged breach of secrecy of oath. Kabimba had sought a legal opinion from Solicitor General Musa Mwenye which he copied to Patriotic Front lawyers and also the Chief Justice over the status of MPs whose seats were nullified visa-vie their re-contesting. The PF had hatched a plan to eliminate vocal opposition lawmakers like Petauke Central’s Dora Siliya, Mulusa, Maxwell Mwale (Malambo) and Victoria Kalima (Kasenengwa). The tribunal has been adjourned to Monday January, 27. zambiareports/2014/01/23/respondents-close-case-kabimba-tribunal/
