Response to Carte Blanche Questions It has been brought to our attention that there are a couple of questions and concerns that have risen since the Carte Blanche “Prepaid Electricity” broadcast last week Sunday the 12th of October 2014. We hope that this response will help clarify such concerns. Firstly, we would like to emphasize the fact that we are a service provider and not an energy reseller. Sunday’s episode was about energy resellers and inflated fees and service charges. Please bear in mind that, as a service provider in the prepaid utility sub-meter market, our offerings include but are not limited to: • Supplying a vending system for utilities – electricity, water and gas. • Management of prepaid sub meters. • The collection of monies for utilities purchased. • Payments of vended monies to landlords, body corporates or managing agents. The Carte Blanche episode was aimed at prepaid electricity and energy resellers in the municipal bulk supply market and did not even touch on the subject of sub-meters, their purpose, nor their use. They failed to mention that the council will supply one bulk meter to the perimeter of an erf and do not get involved in any metering of multiple dwellings on that erf. Most municipalities and bulk electricity suppliers do not have the systems, infrastructure, nor capabilities to manage sub meters. Management of utilities on premises where there is more than one consumer all drawing from one bulk supply is complex and sub meters, in conjunction with our vending system, have provided an accurate, fair and easy solution. In every industry there are organizations that are reputable and act with integrity. However, at the same there are unfortunately organizations that do not act with integrity. Regrettably it is these organizations that are brought to the attention of the media and a wide spread broadcast such as the one on Carte Blanch can give consumers just reason for concern. The important thing for every consumer and customer would be to investigate thoroughly the supplier which they choose to ensure integrity and compliance of services received. Please note: that your tariff on our system is set up at registration of your meter according to the municipal bill that is provided by the landlord or body corporate. You receipts reflect this and you can view your receipts online any time by logging in to our vending system located at prepaidmeters.net . Our company has very good relations with NERSA (National Energy Regulator of South Africa) and has working relationships with municipalities in South Africa. As a result of this and our commitment to transparency and compliance any irregularities reported are investigated thoroughly and appropriate action is taken. Our in-house developed vending system offers transparency and ease of use. Any landlord / managing agent / body corporate OR meter user can log into the system at any time and clearly see the tariff being charged, their meter transactions, service charges etc. Our call center is operational 7 days a week from 08:00 to 22:00 and will gladly guide users through the system, answer questions and give consumers confidence and clarity regarding their utility usage and charges. Many large corporations, including mines, farming concerns, retail and light industrial together with tens of thousands of landlords and body corporate have come to rely on our systems for sub-metering.
