Responsibility for ANP training courses handed over to Afghan authorities Kabul, November 2014. A landmark transfer for the development and approval of Afghan National Police (ANP) training courses into the Afghan ownership took place on the 26 November. Under the framework of the recurring Professional Development Board (PDB) a memorandum of understanding was signed by representatives of EUPOL, German Police Project Team (GPPT), Nato Training Mission-Afghanistan (NTM-A) and ANP General Training Command (GTC). With this memorandum the international community handed over the responsibility and decision making about ANP training courses to Afghan authorities. The international representatives on the PDB will now take the role of advising and support towards the Afghan authorities in their work to provide adequate training courses to the police. In the PDB the Afghan authorities will now decide about newly designed and developed training courses and give official approval to them. The approved courses can then be taught across the country according to same standards. “Thank you to EUPOL, NTM-A and GPPT for your great work in the development of courses and training. I am glad to take over the responsibility for the Professional Development Board for the General Training Command. We have now the ability to organize, asses and improve the education of the Afghan Police,” said Major General Selab, who signed the memorandum on behalf of ANP GTC together with his EUPOL mentor/adviser Falco Haberkorn.
