Rest in Peace Dr. Ricky Grigg (1937-2014). Although initially opposed to the creation of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Coral Reef Ecosystem Reserve, Dr. Grigg became a strong advocate for the creation of the reserve and then the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument among many, many other lifetime works and achievements. In the 1970ʻs Dr. Grigg was one of the chief scientists involved in the tripartite studies to better understand the wildlife and habitats in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. He also proposed the theory for acropora coral colonization into the Hawaiian Archipelago via Necker Ridge. With too many achievements and contributions to list, and an outsized personality we will miss you Dr. Grigg. May you be surfing the big waves in the afterlife.
