Rest in Peace, Terry Kath Terry Kath was a gifted musician Who harbored a burning ambition To be known as a star With his Gibson guitar And his talent for song composition Illinois is where Terry arrived As a baby his parents contrived On one early Spring night When some swimmers took flight And an adequate number survived Many instruments Terry could play And soon he began making hay In some regional bands With his magical hands He was rife with artistic cachet Later on came much glowing acclaim When a group called Chicago became A band of renown In that toddlin’ town On their highway to fortune and fame Chicago scored many great hits And their followers loved them to bits Like their friends and their peers In the Watergate years When their faces were covered with zits But then came that horrible day When Terry was taken away He was just thirty-one When his life was all done Much too soon like the late Marvin Gaye Terry Kath was a critical part Of a band that was stylish and smart And is still going strong Playing hither and yon As theyre aging like classical art So we say Rest in Peace to a man Who performed with Cetera and Lamm Stealing millions of hearts With his digital smarts He was clearly no flash in the pan
