Rest in peace, Paul Revere, of the band Paul Revere & the Raiders. - TopicsExpress

Rest in peace, Paul Revere, of the band Paul Revere & the Raiders. He was the only one in the band with blond hair, and to my eyes, he always looked a lot older than the other guys. Since it was his band in name, I remember thinking at one point that he was the other band members Dad (sorry, Paul). Ive always thought Paul Revere & the Raiders were very underrated. I suspect thats because they were seen by many as nothing more than the house band on the TV show Where The Action Is. Just like The Monkees, I think that Paul Revere & the Raiders found out that being on TV regularly can be a double-edged sword career-wise. I still remember hurrying home from St. Anthony school and getting my homework done so that I could watch Where The Action Is. My classmate Nancy Britton and I were big fans of the band. We thought that bass guitarist Fang was really cool because he made funny faces when he played. You can throw in a really cute for Nancy. She had this scrapbook of Fang photos that she had clipped from teen magazines. It also included her own personal drawings of Fang. She would secretly carry the scrapbook around with her school books. Score that one: Nancy - 1 Nuns - 0. When it comes to mid-60s radio hits, Ive always thought of Paul Revere & the Raiders as an American version of The Kinks. At least for about two or three years they were. I still have not decided what my favorite song is by the band. Not surprisingly, it usually comes down to these five near perfect hits: Kicks, Just Like Me, Him Or Me, Hungry, Good Thing (probably in that order). But back to the sad news . . . rest in peace, Paul Revere, and thanks for making getting out of school that much more exciting. youtube/watch?v=jBVDBuz4rZw
