Rest in peace, sweet Ayla. Were guessing she was close to thirty - TopicsExpress

Rest in peace, sweet Ayla. Were guessing she was close to thirty years old, an age that was confirmed by Dr. Freer today when sent her to rest after an hours pain from a broken leg. I had been wondering if Aylas leg would make it through the winter and Im glad that her suffering was brief and that she was surrounded by people who loved her on a beautiful afternoon. Ayla was one of my very first school horses and she came along as a package with Cathy who passed away last month. I wondered how long Ayla would last without her constant companion, the two bossy paint mares of the barn. Horses know -- and they know when they are ready to move on. I bought Ayla from a friend who was hunting her and reluctantly sold the mare to secure funds to take a friend on a last trip after a lengthy battle with cancer. So from the very first day Ayla came to live with us, she was with us for a very good reason and she went on to change lives in smalls way and big. For the past few years she had retired from the regular lesson program and was used for select therapeutic and intro lessons for tiny riders. Cathy and Ayla were the foundation for everything that Bramblewood would become. They were rare horses who showed us what was truly important. Their loss leaves holes in our heart, but I know those holes will be filled by the next travelers who come to us seeking a home and good work that changes lives. Rest in peace, beloved Ayla, you are irreplaceable and priceless. Watch over us and guide our next steps.
