Rest of the week ahead. A slow moving area of low pressure - TopicsExpress

Rest of the week ahead. A slow moving area of low pressure remains over the UK bringing showers and longer spells at times interspersed by some drier and brighter interludes. Temperatures around to a little above average in the south and around to a little below average in the north. Thursday Early rain clearing from eastern parts of England but continuing to affect the Northern Isles through Thursday. It will be a day of sunny spells and heavy showers for all areas with any early mist and fog patches clearing, though perhaps lingering across north eastern parts of Scotland. The showers most frequent and widespread across western areas of the UK, excluding north west Scotland and the Western Isles, but the most widespread showers gradually pushing further northward and eastward through the day and also becoming more widespread across Ireland. Some of the showers may be heavy and thundery with hail and may lead to some localised flooding, especially with rain falling onto saturated ground and with high river levels. The showers will also fall as sleet and snow across the Scottish mountains and the highest ground of northern England. The showers may also merge into longer spells of rain during the day, especially across eastern parts of Norther Ireland, leading to an increased risk of localised flooding. Breezy at times in southerly winds, especially during the heaviest showers. A mild day with highs widely of 7 to 10 degrees, 5 to 7 degrees across the far north of England and southern Scotland and 3 to 6 degrees across northern Scotland but staying close to freezing across the Scottish mountains. Friday To be updated Thursday night. Another day of sunny spells and scattered showers, most frequent in the west and wintry over the Scottish mountains. A longer spell of rain may push into south eastern areas of England later. Breezy across England, Wales and the Isle of Wight but winds easing here and generally lighter elsewhere. Temperatures around the seasonal average in the north and above in the south. Weekend To be updated Friday night. Low pressure stays in control so it will be staying unsettled with showers and longer spells of rain moving northward and eastward during Saturday. Driest conditions perhaps across Ireland and Northern Ireland but still some showers here. Fewer showers (mostly in the west) and more in the way of dry and bright conditions during Sunday. Breezy at times over the weekend but of little concern. Temperatures around to a little above average on Saturday but cooler on Sunday with a frosty and icy start in places after a cold night Saturday where skies clear.
