This is a heartwarming photo of true partners who respected each other and a tearjerker of a story… This photo depicts U.S. Marine, Dante Brown and his explosives detection dog, Patrick (a Malinois). Dante Brown served as a K9 handler from 2007 until 2012. He and MWD Patrick were in charge of clearing the routes and roadways for convoys to make certain it was IED free for the traveling troops while in Afghanistan. They both made it home in 2009 but Patrick died after finding a IED "improvised explosive device" in 2011 when he went on his 2nd deployment with another K-9 handler. MWD Patrick was killed in the line of duty after indicating on the find, but he got too close. We are deeply saddened that MWD Patrick paid the ultimate sacrifice while doing his job that he loved. His actions saved the lives of 80 marines who were traveling right behind him. The German Shepherd Dog Community
