Restored Where once trees towered above the earth Where once birds sang with cheerful mirth Where once was grown God’s bounteous gift Where once the sound of laughter drift Then came the Hun with evil intent To rape this soil and landscape rent To bring death’s veil to child and man Til red with blood the rivers ran While barbarous Bill destroyed terrain His armies inflicted so much pain But all his plans were thwarted still When heroes stood on vale and hill The soil was churned by bomb and rain And thousands died each foot to gain Blown to shreds, shot and drowned Their bodies lost in France’s ground Now nature does reclaim the earth And once again bird’s sing with mirth The golden fields of grain men reap In barns not guns but corn they heap No matter what man tries to do Destroy, uproot, create anew God reaches down with healing hand Restores his work, for it’s all planned Michael R J Wilson 9/3/14
