Results and match reports from this weekends action: U13 Rovers 0 Ards Rangers 6 Antrim rovers u13 got beat 6-0 with a very strong ards rangers team, rovers where always slow to close down,we where 4 nil down at half time we change it around and we started to play football but got caught out at back again with to more goals. not a good start to league but we know what we need to do! U14 Rovers 1 Ards Rangers 4 A disappointing result for Rovers on their first league match in the premier league. A below par performance all round against last seasons mid table Ards team, and with tougher opponents yet to come this was a real eye opener for manager Mark Gourleys team. An uneventful first half saw both sides create few chances but thanks to Nathans equaliser after Ards opened the scoring both teams left the pitch at half time all square. The 2nd half saw a lack of self belief from a usually buoyant Antrim side, and the usual passing game just never got going. Final scoreline of 4-1 leaving much work to be done on the training ground. U15 Rovers 3 Aquinas Star 0 Rovers under 15s opened the league campaign with a 3-0 victory over Aquinas Star Rovers were almost caught cold from the kick off but a wonder save from the excellentJamie Sempey kept the score 0-0 ,Rovers stepped up a gear after that and Aquinas had no answer for the inteligent runs of keith Millar Jay Burton and Aaron Mcnielly and a powerful strikers performance from Liam Mckernan giving Aquinas defence a torrid time Rovers took the lead when Mcnielly raced onto a brilliant pass from Mckernan and calmly slotted the ball home. Rovers continued to dominate the game with capt Ellis Morrison and Ryan Mckimm winning the midfiel battles and Rovers defence of Phil Skillen Adam Walker Adam Mccullough and Ryan Worthington standing firm with Mccullough winning almost everything in the air, second half saw Nathan Crawford Ronnan Gribben and Karol Olcawski and William Melville introduced and they certainly played their part in securing the victory goal number two came from Liam Mckernan from a Crawford cross , Olcawski fired just past the post and the Aquinas keeper made a brilliant save from a Burton piledriver before Crawford made it number three with a powerful shot from inside the box. Matthew Sullivan replaced Worthington for the last 20 mins and put in an excellent shift. An excellent performance and a clean sheet the result even more pleaseing considering Adam Rutherford Marc Chann Jamie Mcgarry and Jordan Stewart were all missing through injury. U16 Rovers 3 Apex 1 Rovers u16s started off their league programme with a hard fought but well deserved 3-1 victory over a very strong Apex side. After a spell of mid field dominance dermot mcerlain added to his already impressive goal tally with a great left footed effort from twenty yards that gave the apex goalkeeper no chance. Somewhat against the run of play the referee awarded a rather dubious penalty after a breakaway by the apex attack. Apex converted to make it 1-1. However straight from the kick off rovers were awarded a free kick out on the left which was taken by Rory Mclarnon and touched in by Daragh Fagan. Half time 2-1.The second half started with Apex on the offensive and goalkeeper Joe Webb had to be alert on a number of occasions making a number of excellent saves to keep rovers in front.Rovers had a number of chances to increase their lead and eventually one of these was converted by centre forward mcerlain. U17 Rovers 5 Rosario 1 Under 17s played Rosario at the grove in the 1st league game of the season. Rovers started stong and broke the deadlock on the 20th min when patrick cooke scored with a well sruck freekick. Rovers were caught napping on the 37th min Rosario managed to draw level.
