MOTM Ryan Rutherford. Well done to all the players. U11 Under 11s Rovers 3 - 5 Sunnyside Rovers travelled to Lisburn for a 9 oclock kick off. Unfortunately they where missing several players through injury and illness. Sunnyside who where physically bigger than Rovers started the strongest and put the young Rovers side on the back foot. Several great saves from keeper Marcus kept it scoreless until Sunnyside scored from long range. The opposite team then scored 2 quick goals from corners to go 3 up. This fired Rovers into life with midfielder Jon scoring from the edge of the box following great work from Odhran and Lewis. Rovers where much better in the second half and appeared to grow on confidence. They began creating a lot more chances with striker David missing several opportunities and having one goal ruled offside. Sunnyside then caught Rovers on the break twice to go further in the lead. Rovers never gave up and striker David finally took his chance when one on one with the keeper. Rovers captain Ethan then scored from a corner as Rovers continued to create plenty of chances. Unfortunately they could not get any more goals. Despite the defeat the coaches where extremely proud of the way the team never let the heads drop and with a little bit more luck could have got something from the match. Moes Grill - Man of the Match goes to Lewis starting his first game in midfield. U12 Antrim Rovers U12s 1 - 1 Lisburn Rangers. This was another close encounter and a tight match that could have gone either way. Team Captain Ross Smillie was back from injury and played in Mid-field rather than the Center half position that was taken by Mark Davies. Rovers started brightly and competed well for the ball all over the park. Both teams had early chances but a free kick for the Rovers gave them the chance to put pressure on the Lisburn defense. Up stepped Ben Spiers who directed the shot into the opposition goal and for the second week in a row has opened the scoring for his team. The Rovers held the advantage until half time with Right Back Stuart Gibson and Left Back Ben McNiell under quite a lot of pressure. Lisburn started the second half brighter and caught the Rovers sleeping down the left hand wing and equalized with a low shot into the Rovers net. Conor Logue burst through the Lisburn defense only to be taken down unfairly and a penalty was awarded to the Rovers. Conor stepped up to take the spot kick only to see the keeper pull off a fine save and Ross Smillie narrowly missed the rebound. Subs Ryan Morrow and Joshua Harrison both came on and played well, The rest of the second half was close as both sides looked for the winning goal. Some good goal kicking from Keeper Adam McMullan helped keep the pressure off the defense and give the Rovers more attacking opportunities through out the game. Man of the match today goes to Ross Smillie, once again giving 110% challenging for every ball and tackle, well done Ross. The U12s will be withdrawing from the Lisburn League for the next 5 weeks as we loose half of our squad that are taking the transfer tests at various times in the month of November. Both Neil and myself wish you all the very best of luck. Two draws in the last 2 weeks will have given the team a boost, lets start to grow in confidence and continue to improve after the November break. Tuesday training will continue as normal... U13 Rovers 0 Carryduff 3 U14 Rovers 4 Ards Academy 2 Rovers U14 finally got their first win of the season today at Henry Jones, and it was no more than they deserved for a very hard fought and determined performance from all available members of the squad. However, once again, this match saw another Rovers player have to be taken to hospital due to injury, keeper Jack Kirkpatrick picked up a sprained wrist within the first 2 mins of the match after reacting well to a powerful shot from the Ards forward! Step forward Aiden Gormley who came on a showed why having two excellent keepers in any squad is vital in the modern game. Rovers took the lead in the 20th minute from a corner when Dylan Robb stole in at the far post to put the ball into the back of the Ards net, a deserved goal from a hard working young man who always gives 100%. Rovers didn’t have it all their own way though and it was up to sub keeper Aiden who ensured Rovers left the field at half time still in front, with two point blank saves. During the second half Rovers stepped up the pressure and were unlucky to concede the equaliser when they were pushing forward looking for the second goal. But, with persistence and some patience they retook the lead when Ben Gourley’s 20 yard shot crashed off the crossbar and went into the net. With less than 10 mins on the clock left Ards again pegged Rovers back, their very fast striker springing the offside trap and beating the keeper one on one. But Rovers didn’t let this affect them and their resilience again shone when good work down the Rovers left flank from Aaron Murray who played Corey Davidson in to play an inch perfect cross towards the near post which was met with a perfectly timed run by Nathan McKee to put the visitors in front for a third time. This time there was no way back for a deflated Ards team and a late fourth from Jonny McCammond earned Rovers all 3 points. Overall a very good team performance as Rovers already without the services of Jordan Lynn and Reece Sloan, joined on the treatment table by Jack Kirkpatrick and Corey Knox with the later suffering a bloody nose in an early challenge on the keeper. Polybagstores MOTM: Eamyn Queslati, who slotted into centre half and gave an outstanding performance of speed and strength. U15 Rovers under 15s took on unbeaten Bloomfield fc at Orangefield today and came away with a 2-1 victory after a great team performance. Rovers were quickly into thier stride passing the ball with ease on the big pitch, Rovers never gave the home team time to settle on the ball with Liam Mckernan as usual proving a real handfull for opposition defenders alongside keith Millar, midfielders Ryan Mckimm , Jay Burton, Jamie Mcgarry and capt Ellis Morrison were winning the battle in the centre of the pitch with Burton running at the Bloomfield defence at evey opportunity, Rovers took the lead when a slide rule pass from Millar split the defence allowing Mckernan to whip in a cross that saw a Bloomfield defender make a great flying save with his hand Mckernan stepped up to convert the penalty. Rovers defence have proved a formidable barrier this season so far , lead by centre backs Adam Mcculough and Marc Chan with full backs Matty Sullivan and Phil Skillen in front of the superb Jamie Sempey in goal Bloomfield were restricted to a few long range efforts and struck the crossbar with a fine strike Rovers held their breath after Sempey raced out of his area to punch clear recieving a yellow card as the ref judged he had handled outside his area. Second half saw Bloomfield up their game and press for an equalizer but Rovers stayed strong and Jay Burton scored a second goal for Rovers with a fine strike from 20 yrds out. Bloomfield pulled a goal back to set up a tense finish but Rovers held the lead to the final whistle to seal the 3 points. Hard to single out a man of the match today after such a strong team effort where every player played their part. U16 Rovers 1 Ballywalter 0 Rovers claimed another 3 points to maintain their unbeaten run in the league campaign. The deciding goal was scored by keiran porter when he took advantage of a neat through ball from Rory Maclarnon and placed his effort wide of the advancing Ballywalter goalkeeper into the bottom corner of the net. In a rather uneventful second half, played out in rather windy conditions, the rovers kept their first clean sheet of the season and take their tally of 13 from 15 points to ensure at least second place in their division. Moes grill motm Kieran Porter U17 Under 17s took on anderstown celtic at mallusk. This was a big game for rovers as anderstown had won 5 from 5. Rovers had two great chances in first 5mins but the keeper pulled off two great saves. The first half stayed close and with either team unable to break the deadlock. 2nd half seen rovers start strong and win a penatly on the 60min which jordan mckelvey slotted home. Anderstown celtic worked hard and managed to get level on 70th min. Rovers made a few subs to freshing the team up and seen the work rate pay off as jordan mckelvey rounded the keeper to leave a tap in for dean sullivan. Final score 2-1. The managment had a hard choice to pick man of the match as the whole team were outstanding, Though in the end it was awarded to adrian dubyna, thanks to Polbagstores for sponsor! U18 rovers 5 dunmurry 1 todays match at suffolk in belfast, rovers arrived late for the 9.30 ko but the lack of warm up must have suited as they soared into a 3 nil lead in the first 15 mins. dunmurry pulled one back with a wind assisted punt up field. rovers were more subdued in the second half but managed to add 2 goals to their total.scorers today were glenn vance with 2 and 1 each for jesse rodgers, andy mellon and polybags mom carl wilson 1st Team Woodlands 0 rovers 3 scorers darryl brammeld (41 & 63mins) jonny rodgers (48mins).
