Retailers are opening earlier and earlier this year, including some that are already open. If you have Facebook and a feed youve heard a shit ton about how wrong (or right) it is. On one hand: its corporate greed... tearing employees away from their families... a consumer-driven society out of control. Ive also heard from my Republican friends: its a free-market society... corporations are just giving the consumer what they want... the shoppers need the deals... the employees need the money. The one thing everyone can agree on: if the consumers dont shop, the stores wont be open. Im tired of hearing about what the CONSUMERS want. How bout we let the retail store employees decide? If they want to work, and need the money badly enough, theyll sign up for the Thanksgiving Day shift. If they dont, they wont, and the store will stay closed (or pay so much that employees cant say no). Then I guess well really find out if the employees need the money so badly that they want to work on Thanksgiving.
