Rethink Iran: a World-Class Film Producer The Separation of Nader and Simin is one of the more well-known films produced in Irans indigenous cinema industry. Indeed, it won the Academy Award for best foreign film in 2012, but also countless others, like Golden Globes, Berlins Golden Bear (the first Iranian film to do so), and numerous top prizes at film festivals. On Rotten Tomatoes, The Separation has an exceptional score of 99%. We are not sure what was wrong with that 1% -- there will have to be a recount! Despite all of this acclaim, when Asghar Farhadi, the director and screenplay writer for The Separation accepted his Oscar, he only wanted to tell the entire world one thing: At this time, many Iranians all over the world are watching us. And, I imagine them to be very happy. They are happy not just because of an important award for a theme or filmmaker, but because at this time the talk of war and intimidation and aggression estranged by politicians, the name of their country, Iran, is spoken here through her glorious culture. A rich and ancient culture that has been hidden under the heavy dust of politics. I proudly offer this award to the people of my country. A people who respect all cultures and civilizations, and despise hostility and resentment. The Separation is a drama and touches serious and somber issues that relate to everyones lives around this great Earth. We see in this movie that Iranians share the same issues, the same family tragedies, and so much more. Around the internet, comments about this film included, Well, I had no clue! or even, I really didnt know they had dishwashers! These views are a reminder that it is time to Rethink Iran. (NIK)
