Retired APD officer Kent Shettles obit was in the newspaper - TopicsExpress

Retired APD officer Kent Shettles obit was in the newspaper yesterday & also today. Shettle (we called everyone by their last names-- had to--everyone was named Mike or Steve :) ) anyway, Shettle was one of the good guys. He wasnt one of the young troops that ran like a deer on a foot pursuit at every opportunity. But, my money would still be on Shettle and his trusty backup,Doug Rolfs if they were involved in the call. You WERE going to jail if they had to chase you. Shettle was one of a very few that actually made me laugh. The Sarcasm Master! Remember the days--long ago--when you could cut up with someone--not have to walk on your tippy toes--afraid youd offend somebody? Back when people got along? Today you dont know who has a recorder on & possibly going to trap you or cause you some grief. I know we need laws & rules--blah blah--and people are protected--blah blah--but, for some reason, Ive never had to pursue any of that & Ive had as many friendships with men as I have had with women. Theres an understood line & you dont cross it. Back in the day, :) you knew you had arrived, if you could get a well meaning jab from someone like Shettle or Doug Rolfs For instance, when Doug Rolfs would call into dispatch & Id answer, his first words would be, Oh NO, I got the hillbilly. Ill talk slow. :) Some might be offended--me, well, if Doug talked to you at all--you knew he liked you--no matter what he said. Shettle was the same. I missed Shettle when he retired. Rolfs has since retired, too. Rolfs always gave us reports on Shettles health. 2 peas in a pod? I dont know. I just know, if you have a friendship that lasts as long as the one Shettle & Rolfs had--well, you also have arrived & you are one lucky person. Warm thoughts for Shettles family and also for Doug. I know hes feeling a huge loss. Doug--JOB WELL DONE!
