Retro Movie Tuesday is a very meaningful part of the drive-in - TopicsExpress

Retro Movie Tuesday is a very meaningful part of the drive-in season to us. Transit was the first drive-in anywhere to offer a weekly retro movie lineup during the peak of the summer. A lot of people said it wouldnt be successful, and that it wouldnt make enough money to cover the licensing fees. Right off the bat, our first retro night in 2012 was a huge success, and were going into our third season of retro movies on every Tuesday in June, July, and August. If it seems like were dragging our feet each year before announcing the lineup, its because we are. Its very difficult to choose just a few dozen retro movies, when there are literally hundreds of great retro movies to bring back on the big screen. Its also not quick or easy getting the confirmations and licensing from the copyright owners. Its agonizing to make so many tough choices between all the movies wed love to show. Asking for suggestions from our patrons only makes the decisions harder by widening the number of selections. The good news is that no matter which movies we decide to show, they are all going to be great movies to see again on the big screen. And, as we love to say in Buffalo about our valiant sports teams, theres always next year. Some movies that wed love to be able to show are not currently licensed for theatrical release, even though they can be seen periodically on cable or bought on DVD. Two such examples are Tombstone and the original Star Wars trilogy, both of which weve tried to license for this seasons retro lineup. Weve worked very hard to choose a variety of movie genres which will please different types of audiences, so even though one person may not love all the movie choices, we hope there is something in there for there everyone.
