Retro-Post September 14, 1960: Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela meet to form the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). Later joined by seven other nations, #OPEC has often had a profound impact on history through its control over oil prices – notably twice in the 1970’s when OPEC members refused to export oil to the U.S. and other nations in protest of support for Israel.
