Retro gaming has always been popular, with my generation at least. But unless you experienced the game originally, with the memories associated with that time period, would you still enjoy the game as much? I played Outrun on the weekend. I still remember the hydraulic arcade game, it was awesome. Catchy tunes, great graphics and a cool accident animation when you crash. But then I compare it to something like Burnout - Paradise City, awesome graphics, incredible damage model, actual musical tracks from big bands and a varied amount of things do do over a HUGE map (not to mention multiplayer). Aside from the memories associated to the original experiences, and then the joy of being able to play it on my 64 some time later (which was a terrible conversion, but I loved the arcade, so being able to play something with the Outrun name was a dream come true), I find it hard to recommend it (and really, any other retro game) to someone who isnt my age. I couldnt imagine someone playing The Last Ninja, and liking it. Is the love of retro gaming a lie we live because our memories are clouding our reasoning? Whats everyones thoughts?
